July 14, 1869

A young girl hops down the old creaky steps of her cabin that she shares with her father, Dan, and uncle, Ralph.

Her bright blonde hair falls in her face as she jumps off the stairs, landing on the wooden floor, "Boo!" Her father yells from behind the couch. She screams and starts laughing wildly as Dan jumps over the couch and tickles her. Huge grins plastered on their faces.

Ralph walks into the room from the kitchen, holding the burning candle in his hand, "Sarah, it is time for bed." He tells her as he rips her out of her father's arms.

"Aww! Why, Ralphy?" Sarah whines as he carries her to her room, using the candle to lead the way. As Ralph heads up with Sarah, Dan stands up and walks through the dark, trying to find an extra candle to light. His bright, ocean blue eyes start to adjust as he notices the window open, the wind blowing the tiny curtain gracefully.

Dan shakes his head and uses the moonlight to guide him to the window, where he closes it gently. He fixes his light brown vest around his pure white ruffle shirt as he finds a candle and lights it. A smirk appears on his face as his eyes lay open the dancing flame. It reflects off his eyes, as he becomes entertained by its movement upon its wax dance floor. Dan's eyes flicker away from the small flame as he hears a rustle from the living room.

"Ralph? Is that you?" He yells.

"No, Daniel. I am upstairs." Ralph yells back from the floor above him. Dan's heart begins to beat in his chest as he unsteadily grips onto the candle and shuffles slowly into the living room.

"Wh-Who's there?" He asks as he hears a bang.

"Hello, Daniel." A woman's voice echoes from behind him. He quickly swivels around on his heels to meet the face of the woman.

"Who are you?" He asks her, his voice cracking slightly.

"My name is Fiona." Her hair is bright red and orange. She is clear as she illuminates the darkness around them. Fiona holds out a hand in front of him. She opens her palm to reveal a small flame and it spreads, creating smaller flames in the air above her delicate fingertips.

"What are you and why are you in my house?" He asks her. Fiona closes her palm, putting the fire out and crosses her arms.

"Daniel, you ask too many questions for your age."

"But I am twenty seven." He argues. Fiona nods.

"To answer your question, I am a fire goddess and I am here for one thing and one thing only. That one thing is the girl. She must take my place and become the new goddess for eternity."

"No! You are not taking my daughter! She is too young and she deserves to live out her life and not be a slave towards you!" Dan pushes Fiona back as he yells.

"Dan! What is going on down there? Are you alright?" Ralph yells down at him. Dan runs a nervous hand through his hair.

"Uhm, ya. Everything is okay." He lies.

Fiona stands up, "Fine. Then I will just have to take you." She launches a bright fiery arrow towards him. Before Dan can move, the arrow pierces his heart and the fire starts to eat away at him. His blood curtailing screams fill the cabin, as Fiona's laughs fill the air.

Ralph and Sarah run down stairs and their eyes come in contact with Dan, "DADDY!" Sarah screams, tears falling from her eyes and trailing down her plump cheeks. Ralph leaps off the staircase and runs towards Dan, but he is stopped as a fire is lit underneath him. Sarah screams and cries harder as she watches her guardians burn before her.

Fiona walks towards the screaming girl and takes her in her arms, "You shall live to see your Daddy again soon," Fiona whispers to the child, "But for now, say farewell." And just like that Fiona disappears with Sarah, leaving the flames to lick at the house, slowly consuming it, and turn it and everything inside to ash.

Leaving Dan, burning in an eternal fire of life itself.
